Paper View: Contemporary Works on Paper by Bay Area Artists - curated by Mike Kimball

Reception for the Artists: Friday, June 11th, 7-10PM
at Arc Gallery, 1246 Folsom St

Many artists have a long and abiding love of paper due to the tactile, sculptural and malleable qualities that paper offers the artist. Artists use paper to create a multitude of flat or sculptural works such as assemblage, collage, drawing, mixed-media, painting, prints and book arts. To celebrate this much-loved medium of paper, seventeen contemporary Bay Area artists who create works on paper were selected to showcase their artwork in Paper View, an upcoming exhibition at Arc Studios & Gallery. With his picks of some of the region's most creative artists, guest curator, Mike Kimball, has used his keen eye to craft a spirited overview of works on paper for our consideration and appreciation.

San Francisco artist, Mike Kimball, maintains a strong interest in works on paper, and has created numerous editions of fine art prints. As a printmaker, Kimball has completed artist residencies at the Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, CA and the Frans Masereel Centrum in Belgium. He is a member of the California Society of Printmakers and the Achenbach Graphic Arts Council. Kimball is also an avid collector of contemporary works on paper, having built a collection of well over 500 pieces.

Paper View artists include: Dorothy Connelly, Bernadette Emrick, James Grouleau, Deborah Hayner, Judy Johnson-Williams, Janet Jones, Camilla Newhagen, Andrew Ogus, Priscilla Otani, Dennis Parlante, Jenny Robinson, Donna Sharee, Kim Smith, Kirsten Tradowsky, Stephen C. Wagner, Kay Weber, and Megan Wolfe.

Arc Studios & Gallery is pleased to host this exhibition in their newly opened art studio complex in San Francisco's SOMA district, featuring quality artist studios, art gallery, art education center, and Blue Bottle Coffee. Arc Studios & Gallery inhabits the former location of New Langton Arts Foundation which closed it's doors in 2009, and the partners of Arc are pleased to carry on the tradition of the space as an arts venue contributing to the vitality of the neighborhood. Arc's ten artist studios offer much needed space for local professional artists to create and produce their artwork, as well as to exhibit their work. Arc is conveniently located at 1246 Folsom Street between 8th & 9th streets, just three blocks from the Civic Center BART Station on Market Street.

Exhibition runs June 5-27, Fri-Sun 12 NOON-5PM, and by appointment
